This week, the children have been undertaking a variety of activities based on the story book " When will it be Spring?"We used many of the wonderful signs of Autumn that were collected and brought into school. Activity One: Mathematical Development
Children have been practising their sorting and reasoning skills. They had to sort a variety of autumn leaves and seeds into hoops, giving reasons for their decisions. Children were encouraged to look carefully at colour, size and shape Activity Two: ICT
Activity Three: Language, Literacy and Communication The children have been learning the sounds d, g, o and u. They have undertaken a variety of Phonic activities including singing songs, sound hunts and match the letter games.
Activity Four: Language, Literacy and Communication The children have practised their pencil grip and control. They have experienced mark making using sticks in the mud outside- moving from left to right and top to bottom. They have also enjoyed practising writing the letters that form their name.
Activity Five: Creative Development The children have been learning about colour mixing and that yellow and red mixed together makes orange. They have created pictures of Autumn trees using a variety of printing techniques.
Activity Six: Welsh Development This week, the children have been focusing on colours in welsh. They have learned to identify the key Autumn colours whilst printing with leaves. The main colours are red= coch, orange= oren, yellow= melyn and brown= brown.
The children have also been participating in a variety of other activities provided through the enhanced areas within the Unit, which are linked to the weekly theme and therefore changed on a weekly basis. This includes sand play, water play, role play, dressing up, ICT, construction, investigating, music, collage, cutting and sticking, painting, playdough and clay, number, drawing, mark making, jigsaws, reading, enjoying books and listening to music. The children now have constant access to the outdoors environment and many activities take place outside. The children have access to obstacle courses, play house, slide and play frame, bikes and trikes.
